About me

Jhon Álvarez

Illustrator

I am Jhon Álvarez, a Graphic Designer from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, with a professional career spanning over twenty years dedicated to medical illustration and scientific communication. My deep interest in medicine and illustration has allowed me to develop synthesis and abstraction skills essential for visualizing scientific concepts. I have had the privilege of collaborating with doctors and researchers in multidisciplinary teams, working on challenging projects and producing learning objects, virtual courses, books, journals, and videos.

Throughout my career, I have honed my technical skills in creating vector illustrations, 2D and 3D graphics, as well as 2D animation. I am now incorporating artificial intelligence technologies into my workflow to make it more efficient.

I have shared my knowledge as an anatomy professor for young artists at various universities in Colombia. This experience has allowed me to contribute to the training of the next generation of medical illustrators, imparting not only techniques and knowledge but also learning educational aspects that only those of us who have performed this role understand.

My work has been featured in publications by the U.S. Agency for International Development, the Colombian Society of Anesthesiology, specialized journals, medical update courses, and educational texts.

I greatly enjoy the learning process that each new project offers, and I am convinced that this passion is reflected in each of my illustrations. I am always eager to explore new ways to communicate science, convinced that art and education can transform lives and contribute to people’s well-being.
